Nerdgasm: All Them Artsy Folk

Greetings to all of my hyper-cephalized companions out there in cyber space!

Welcome to a new edition of It Came From the Interwebz!  This edition, we're going to be talking about art and some of the really cool stuff that I have found in my time between anatomy chapters and trolling on the Craigslist "Missed Connections" section.  I've been finding a lot on the web from those gosh darn artsy folk, so it's time for them to shine in this alcove of supreme nerdity.  We are going to cover the entire spectrum here, so be prepared!

TRADITIONAL MEDIA:

  • Monique Jeanne WellsMonique has an artistic style that really does jump off the page and fits quintessentially within the storybook environment.  She is currently working to publish a children's book that she has authored and illustrated.  I don't know how much of the story I am allowed to reveal, so I'm going to err on the side of caution and keep a zipped lip about it, but I'm excited to see what the future holds for her!  I'm a personal fan of this web-comic of hers, featured at right.  What can I say...it speaks to me ^_^

  • They Used WHAT for This?!

MS Paint.  I shit you not...
SCULPTURE
That is a model wearing that, but this picture would be NOTHING without the slightly macabre sculpted leather.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Inside the human heart.  Isn't this gorgeous?

FILM

  • Enough to Read War and Peace About 4 Times: That's about how long it would take to set up and shoot this film.  For those of you not in the know, this is stop-motion film, which means everything has to be re-arranged for each shot.  That was still really ambiguous.  Basically, moving something slightly in your desired direction with every shot creates an illusion of fluid motion when the frames are thread together.  It takes FOREVER to do, but the product is usually well worth all the trouble.  I cannot imagine how long this shoot went for, let alone how many people were on set to help flip every one of those books on the shelves over and over again.  I'm definitely showing this off to my film group.

MUSIC (Electronic/Instrumental)

  • The Futurist: This is my buddy Mitch's musical project.  This guy's got some really cool ambient electronica with sweet beats.  Great to do homework to.  I can also imagine this ending up as a score to a movie, but then again, my head's always in film these days.  Check it out!  (In the "info" section of the profile, there are links to SoundCloud and BandCamp.)
  • JT Bruce: I was first introduced to JT Bruce's music a couple years ago when I was complaining about not being able to do homework to my favorite music, which happened to be rock at the time.  Seriously...have you ever tried to type or hand-write something when you know EVERY SINGLE LYRIC to the song playing in the background?  Impossible.  JT Bruce's music is all instrumental, yet still implements masterful use of electric guitar...oh and it's only one guy.  Pretty cool, huh?  Music and free downloads here!  I highly recommend "Bellatrix" on Universica.

MUSIC (Vocal)

  • The Coolest Choir Ever: My boyfriend had me listen to a podcast about this a few months ago.  The basic concept was that this composer appealed to singers from all over the world via the internet (mainly YouTube) to learn their respective parts of a piece he had written, record, and submit them.  All of these voices were compiled and a virtual choir was made with over 100 voices singing in harmony, despite the fact that they had never met each other or practiced with each other a single time prior.  They even had online auditions for the brief soprano solo in the beginning.  The video I've chosen is from the first installment of the virtual choir (there are two complete so far).  Eric Whitacre has just released on his channel that VC3 is in the works, and I'll be damned if I miss out on this.

Tune in on Monday for a Field Guide update!
Until next time, dweebs <3
